Background The Project The Neighborhood The School The Students The Teacher	The School Richard E. Byrd Community Academy is a neighborhood school located in in Cabrini Green.The school is one school in the Chicago Public Schools. Most of the students at Byrd come from the Cabrini Green housing projects. We are fighting to get a new school because our school has a lot of problems. We were actually promised a new school 6 years ago. We were in kindergarten but no one has come through on their promises. We think it is because of all the changes that are going on around here. We do not think it is fair! We need a nice place to learn like others that have more money. Don't you agree? The school is only 44 years old, but it seems like it is 100 years old. The people inside the school are not the problem. It is the building itself that is the problem. Most of our teachers are really good and nice and the kids are really smart. We just think that if we had a new building we could do even better and be more compfortable when we learn. You can read and see about all of the problems of the school on this website. Richard E.
